STeP by OEKO-TEX
STeP by OEKO-TEX
STeP by OEKO-TEX
STeP by OEKO-TEX addresses facility performance across the en-tire textile production chain, including:
Weaving, knitting, production of non-wovens and related pro-cesses.
Dry spinning, twisting and related processes.
Making up of products through cutting, sewing and related pro-cesses).
Manufacturing of accessories (e.g. zippers, buttons, labels).
Wet spinning, twisting and related processes.
Dyeing, printing, finishing, coating and related processes .
Manufacturing of foams and mattresses .
Others (e.g. non-agricultural fibre production) .
Textile logistics for textiles and its accessory only .
STeP by OEKO-TEX assesses, audits and certifies the following modules of the textile production chain.
Quality management.
Health and Safety performance and management.
Chemical Management.
Environmental performance .
Environmental management.
Social responsibility.
To qualify for certification according to STeP by OEKO-TEX, facili-ties must meet the stipulated criteria in the modules above. Various rankings can be achieved based on the levels of performance de-fined within the standard, which is updated periodically.
The textile industry continues to be in a transition from a regional to a global industry. STeP by OEKO-TEX seeks to align itself with the major goals and objectives of NGOs and industry groups that are seeking a path towards greater sustainability in textile produc-tion and lifecycle.
The overarching goal of the standard is to help production facilities to measure and improve sustainability, environmental performance, health and safety performance, and social responsibility and to re-port this to the industry and consumers in a transparent and useful format.
This standard is to be applied to facilities (production sites) for specified textile products ,their intermediary products as well as textile accesso-ries and textile logistic centres.
